Making 3D models with captured photos using special software is called photogrammetry. For better photogrammetry, there are steps you should follow for a better 3D scanning process. If you have occurred some problems during the 3D scanning, this guide will help you to solve them.
For the perfect 3D scanning you should follow the below steps. The steps are common for any camera as well as mobile scanning also.

Take the Photos as Much as Possible
Make a 3D model using a camera with special software is called photogrammetry. We will need a camera for taking the photos. And then we have to import the photos to the special image processing software or any cloud to create the 3D model.
In this process, if you have more images you can have a more detailed 3D object. Increasing the photo means increasing the detail of the object. So you must have many photos with different angles. This is like a pixel in the image. If you have more pixels you will have more detail. Here if you have more photos you will have more detail in the 3D model
Select the Low Reflection Surface
Everything we do in the 3D scanning with photos that we take from the camera. So if you have any odd photos it will affect the final output. Here you must conder about the reflection of the surface. The glossiness of the surface. If the surface is too much glossiness or reflected your photos will show you another thing through your object. That kind of place will show odd in the final model.
How to use the reflected area for 3D scanning?
In photogrammetry, you can use the reflected areas also. But we must pay more attention to that. There are things we should consider about the final output.
Cover the Area
If you do not need the textures you can cover the area with paper or something to avoid reflection
Use Perpendicular Photography of the Area
When you take the photo of the reflected area you can have the photos perpendicularly. So you can avoid some reflection from that. This is not a 100% correct method. But you can reduce it a bit.
Do not Select Transparency Object
The transparent area will not absorb the lightings. So taken photos cant produce a proper image of that area. So you need to block the transparency. Else you will have an odd image. Anyway if you can cover the area it is great if you do not need the textures for the final output. When you rendering the scanned object you will have an odd image.
Keep the Same Distance With the Object
The most important thing is the distance from the object. If you are too far from the object you will have lost some detail. If you are too close you will miss the other detail. So anyhow you had better keep same distance with camera and object. Always try to take photos by covering the whole object. If some part is missing or you feel that details are not enough you can have the close photos.
Do not Use Moving Object
When you use cameras for 3D scanning you can’t use moving objects. Because moving object does not provide clear images. When you have the photo of a rotating fane is it easy to take a good quality photo. It is a bit difficult. When 3D scanning with using a camera and the image processing tracking points are very important. So when you have to blur the image the tracking pots are unable to track.
Use Proper Lightings
Proper lighting is essential for the 3d scanning with the camera. If you have more lights you can have more reflections and less light will produce the shadows. These all are highly affected by the 3D scanning process. You need a light that will not harm to the surface view. In a mid-high range, you can have better 3D scanning.
It is better to have lighting with all parts clearly visible. and it will produce proper textures for the model also.
Use less Shadow
Shadow effect badly to the 3D scanning. when there is a shadow we cant see the depth of the area. it will show as a dark area. So details are not properly visible. Hence in the capturing, we have less detail output. And when producing a 3D object that part will show as a flat area. This is affected to the texturing also
So better to set up the light perfectly. So you had better pay attention to the lighting of the object. make sure you can see the all parts clearly and no much shadow in the object.
Keep the Clear Background
The background is very important when you separate the object from the environment. So it is better to keep the object in opposite color background. Do not use the same color background as the object. Use as much as a plain color background. And some apps provide the specified background. So you have to print it and use it.
Please do not put the object on the shiny background as well as too much brought background. Just place on the plane with less shine and no transparency. If you are doing an environmental 3D scan do not focus on unnecessary objects. So highly aimed to the object that you need.
Use 3D Modeling Software for Post Processing
Post-processing is essential for the 3D scanning output. You can use any 3D modeling software for post-processing. Your output can be .obj, .stl by importing to the 3D modeling software you can remove unnecessary parts also. And also you can create a closed object. So you can use it for 3D printing also.
Use Glue Region Color
The Use Glue region color is the area that you should cover when you are taking the photos. That means after you finish the D scan each part should be perfectly finished. So this can be clearly visible in some scanning apps. Those apps guide you for successful 3D scanning.
